You could be living with a ticking time bomb and you wouldn't even know it. According to an article by CNN, "more than 70 million Americans live every day with some form of heart disease."

This is not heartening by any means. But you can do something about your ticking time bomb, today.

For Your Free Preview of How To Lower Cholesterol Fast With No Obligation

CLICK HERE

"Knowing how to control your cholesterol without giving up your sanity is a good start ... "

There's a lot of misinformation being passed around that cholesterol is bad - that cholesterol is the cause of heart disease. That's so far from the truth. In fact, your body needs cholesterol to stay healthy. Your body uses cholesterol to produce hormones, vitamin D and bile acids to digest fat. And the truth of the matter is - your body requires only a small amount of cholesterol in the blood to meet these needs.

It's only when you have too much cholesterol in your bloodstream (referred to as hypercholesterolemia), that problems start to arise. And this is where you need to pay attention. Because a high cholesterol level ... let's say, north of 250, can and will lead to problems such as atherosclerosis.

"Why is Atherosclerosis Dangerous?"

Atherosclerosis clogs arteries including your coronary arteries (arteries that feed the heart) and if left unchecked overtime, will lead to heart disease like angina and heart attack.

This is why you need to lower your cholesterol level and why it's so important to keep those levels in check. Prescription cholesterol-lowering drugs like Lipitor and Zocor helps to some extent, but ... I'm not too fond of polluting my body with drugs which ... whether you believe it or not - can cause more damage (liver toxicity is a common side effect) than good to your body in the long run. Don't get me wrong ... I'm all for taking prescriptions drugs under doctor's orders if no other alternatives are made available. I'm sure you'll agree with that.

But ... guess what? I'm pleased to tell you that there are alternatives to lowering your cholesterol and keeping them at healthy levels without necessarily turning to drugs. And I've found these alternative solutions in a 123 page book called The 60 Day Prescription Free Cholesterol Cure.

Here's what you'll discover in this eye-opening book ...

How to safely lower your high cholesterol without the use of prescription drugs!

The inexpensive nutritional supplement that dissolves cholesterol like artery detergent and works just like prescription meds but WITHOUT the unwanted side effects! [PAGE 42]

The substance that binds with cholesterol in the intestine and ushers it out of your body! [PAGE 60]

The herb that holds outstanding cholesterol-lowering properties that you can find in any health food store. Ok, that's just my latest lame-#*% attempt at infusing humor in my writings. So let me just get to the point and save me the humiliation.

Based on feedback from many parental study groups, majority of parents feel that for their children to grow up with more than one language, that that is just going to confuse them. But the fact is, the opposite is true, whereby children who grow up with more than one language, develop better problem-solving skills.

"Multilingual children have a sense of perspective that makes them
very language-aware and able to block out irrelevant information"
- Professor Ellen Bialystok of York University in Toronto
(The Sunday Telegraph, London)

Makes me wonder why Barbara Bush never thought of using this method for the then, baby Bush. I would wager that the world would have been a less confusing place.

Recognizing If Your Child Has A Learning Disability...Cont'd

3. Ask Your Child's Teacher

Check with your child's teacher. A child who has difficulty taking instructions from a teacher may not necessarily be because of bad behavior but how the child's brain interprets what the ear communicates to it. Children with learning disabilities can have problems following instructions, so, keep that in mind.

Check to see also if the school's curriculum is geared towards helping children with learning disabilities. If it does not, then find a school where your child will benefit from the extra attention that will be paid to him or her. Bring that education home too, where you, as a parent gets your child involved in counting your groceries or just reading a book to him.

4. Make Use Of Technology

Use technology. Its made many inconveniences a thing of the past, and getting your kids involved with learning tools has never been easier. Educational CD-ROMs or CDs are everywhere, so make use of them.

Just a final thought. If you think having a child who has a learning disability is all doom and gloom, I have news for you. Albert Einstein had a learning disability and see where that got him.

It's all good or as Walt Disney would say, "Hakuna Matata".

Recognizing If Your Child Has A Learning Disability

Its long been thought that learning disabilities originated from abnormalities in the brain. But ongoing studies and research are proving that learning disabilities could be because of genetics and a different brain organization. However, there are ways to help your child, if you suspect that your child has a learning disability. Here are some tips that experts in this field have suggested you try to do.

1. Recite Rhymes and Jingles For Your Child

Reading aloud rhyming narratives and making your child repeat them is a good introduction to learning English while simultaneously ensuring that your child is able to differentiate the different sounds of words.

As a parent, be involved as much as possible with your child's reading and test your child in the form of games, like naming words that rhyme with for example, hat. Just watch to see if your child is able to recognize the sounds of letters and words. You may throw in a couple of words that are not even in the English language for the purpose of measuring your child's ability to recognize sounds.

2. Check With A Paediatrician

Play it safe and visit your child's paediatrician. No need to panic and seek out any specialist. If your child's paediatrician believes that there are real reasons to be concerned about, then he should be able to, or rather, he definitely is able to refer you to a specialist to examine your child's condition.

I will post the rest of the tips tomorrow.

Is EEG A Topic Of Controversy?

After yesterday's post, I thought it was only fair to add this for a more balanced view.

Neurofeedback has been proposed and tested for training the attainment of particular braiwave patterns. This technique has been proposed for the treatment of epilepsy, attention deficit disorder(ADHD), and other diseases and disorders. Some manufacturers and researchers have proposed that the operant conditioning of EEG ("neurofeedback") may produce lasting positive functional changes. (Current bibliography.) In fact, scientology advocates have actively and publicly lobbied against psychiatric medication in general, and Ritalin in particular, in favour of neurofeedback methods and auditing using e-meters for the treatment of narcolepsy and ADHD. However, many ADHD researchers, most notably Russell Barkley, state that any form of neurofeedback is ineffective. Barkley claims that there is no evidence that neurofeedback works in any way. He, and some in the neurology research community, maintain that the supporting research is sloppy and, to date, has not managed to successfully prove anything.

Brainwave training is both controversial and subject to the whims of marketeers, and the reader must keep in mind that the manufacturers are wed to their various own interests, and their financial futures may be at stake. Some members of the community make sweeping generalization statements but fail to make contributions within the professional medical community.

Measuring the brain's activity is a standard procedure in medicine, and can give interesting indicators of how the brain works. Whether EEGs can be used to balance the cerebral hemispheres, induce relaxation, improve mental functioning, improve spiritual awareness, or change or benefit the brain in any way is still inconclusive and can at best be considered controversial. Although brain training companies are likely to quote some studies that show some benefits, the overall view in neuroscience through meta analyses and thorough reviews of research is that electronic brain training is unreliable. More research is needed to determine whether neurofeedback can be considered as anything other than an unreliable treatment or dubious panacea.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neurofeedback#endnote_13

Ok, has anyone of you attempted the secret of the Shaolin monks? If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the post entitled, "Interesting Mind Power Exercise". I got as far as raising my arm and...yeah, that was it. Just could not hold my arm up long enough without feeling an intense sore creeping up. Guess that's why they are Shaolin monks and I'm not.

Anyways, would love to hear from you guys about your experiences, good or bad. It's a journey of discovery about our minds and there's no right or wrong in this fascinating journey.

I would like to leave you with an article, which outlines the different wave patterns that our brains emit, or more specifically, Electroencephalography (ok, now I'm just showing off), or EEG for short. Enjoy!

---------------------------------------------------------
What are the 4 Brainwave Patterns and How Do They Effect Your Health
By Emily Clark

WHAT ARE BRAINWAVES?

Every moment of your life your brain is active. It is pulsing with electrical impulses; you heard that right, electricity! The electricity or electrical current generated by the brain can be measured with an electroencephalogram (EEG), which measures the frequency of the electrical current. This frequency or speed of the brainwave is measured in Hertz(HZ).

Now here is the really cool part. These frequencies can be associated with your state of mind at any particular moment. This means that your state of mind, for example being relaxed, frightened, or sleepy...can be "seen" in your brainwave frequencies. The speed of the frequency allows us to categorize our brainwaves into four broad categories.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT BRAINWAVE PATTERNS?
There are four common brainwave patterns that have been well researched and documented.
They are:

BETA WAVES - 14Hz to 20Hz. Beta waves are associated with normal waking consciousness. They are present when you are focused on activities in the outside world.

ALPHA WAVES - 8Hz to 13Hz. Alpha waves are likened to a light meditation. They are prevalent when you daydream. They will become stronger when your eyes are closed.

THETA WAVES - 4Hz to 7Hz. Theta waves occur during heightened states of creativity and are found with a deep meditative state.

DELTA WAVES - .5Hz to 3Hz. Delta waves are found in a deep sleep state or unconsciousness. Also, Delta waves are common in very deep meditation.

FOCUS, CREATIVITY AND CONCENTRATION - THE ALPHA CONNECTION

A predominance of Alpha waves in the brain is associated with accelerated learning, focus and enhanced creativity. When you are focus on something, there is a predominance of Alpha waves. No matter what your profession or hobby, these attributes will increase your productivity and enhance your experience.

FINDING THE HIGHER SELF - THE THETA CONNECTION

A deep meditative state is true bliss. Increase your Theta waves and you are on your way to this state. In the Theta state you can lose your attachment to the physical body. You will feel a deep sense of physical relaxation. This disconnect of mind and body allows you to focus on the inner you, the higher self. This is the ideal state to begin your journey into meditation.

SLEEP AND MORE - THE DELTA CONNECTION

A Delta state has long been associated with sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, the CDs targeting this range will help immensely. Having a CD that targets the Delta brainwaves will allow you to enter a deep sleep state easily. It will be time to say goodbye to insomnia!

Recently there has also been some research that suggests that an even deeper meditative state can occur during predominate Delta wave activity. As you gain experience and comfort with meditation, you may want to try reaching a Delta state during meditation.

The information contained in this article is for educational purposes only and is not intended to medically diagnose, treat or cure any disease. Time and time again, we keep bumping into people facing adversities and problems. You and I have all been there but at different degrees of adversity.

How is it then that some come out of it stronger than ever before whilst others just succumb to their troubles? Its all in the mind like this article proves and more relevantly, the people of New Orleans, who are heroically demonstrating strength in adversity as I type this. Adversity builds character and there is light at the end of the tunnel, and its best if we try not to forget that.

------------------------------------------
“The mind has to be stronger than the body. The race was exactly the way I pictured it – until the moment I punched my hand in the air with the V-sign at the finish line. I ran it over and over again in my mind before the actual race. Honestly, my whole life changed after that.”

Source: The Star (Click to read full article)
------------------------------------------

Ear workout

Is music and mind power a marriage made in heaven? Prove It For Yourself In The Next 7 Minutes - Truly Awesome!
By Ian Randall

Who are you?

We all know that we are composed of atoms. But what are atoms made of?

Physicists tell us that atoms are composed of electrons, protons and neutrons. They also tell us that these components are ‘point particles’.

They also tell us that point particles have no mass and therefore occupy no space. If they occupy no space they are, by extension of logic, not affected by time – the space/time dimension – no space indicates no time.

Never forget that there is only ever the NOW moment – no other time frame outside of NOW ever exists!

Let’s face it, the truth is that nobody has ever seen an electron!

Physicists also say that the electron isn’t a ‘thing’ at all, but is, in reality, a point of quantum possibility.

So, we are composed of elements that have no mass, occupy no space, are not affected by time and that nobody has ever seen – we are, in fact, pure potential and/or possibility.

Said in another, more direct way, we can have, be and do whatever we conceive as possible!
Is seeing really believing?

Modern day physics, psychology and philosophy show us, beyond a shadow of doubt, that reality is not what it seems.

To understand reality, we must first understand how we perceive it.

We can only perceive reality through our five senses – which, by logic, must be composed of point particles as well. Why? Because they are part of our physical experience which is composed of – yes, that’s right, point particles.

Let’s start with vision, the sense we are usually more aware of.

When you look at a tree, for example, light (composed of photons) reflected from the tree focuses on the retina of your eye which, in turn, releases a flow of electrons. These electrical impulses are then sent to the brain’s visual cortex. This raw data is then converted into an image of a tree which is what appears in our consciousness.

Is the tree really real? There’s no evidence to prove it as all you’re actually experiencing is an image generated in your mind.

By the way, guess what photons are. Yes, they are also classed as point particles – they don’t ‘exist’ either!

And you might like to know that human beings are only ever aware of one thousandths of one per cent of the entire light spectrum!

Do your senses make sense?

In fact, all your everyday experiences of life, follow the same sort of ‘filtering system’.

Everything, and I mean everything, that you see, hear, taste, touch or smell have simply been create for you from data received by your sensory organs and converted into your ‘reality’ of what’s ‘out there’.

However real all these ‘things’ may seem to you they are only mental images and feelings which have been constructed entirely within your mind.

Dreams do come true

It is often said that the mind cannot tell the difference between what’s ‘real’ and what is imaginary – for example a dream.

I like to think that it’s not that it doesn’t know, it’s that it doesn’t differentiate between the two.

This isn’t being pedantic in any way. The first statement seems to rely on the need to somehow trick the mind into believing something is ‘true’ or ‘real’ when we consider it not to be.

The second statement indicates that we don’t have to ‘con’ the mind into anything as, in fact, it will willingly accept the ‘trueism’ of what we present it.

A dream is a creation of our own mind in which people and events are separate from us and therefore everything seems so ‘real’.

When we are awake the ‘reality’ that we experience is created by our sensory data input and simply bears a closer resemblance to what is happening ‘out there’.

The same process of ‘reality generation’ occurs in both dreams and in waking consciousness.

So, what’s the difference? NONE!

You are not a passive observer of a randomly created world – you are the active creator of the world you observe.

Let’s stop believing what we see and start seeing what we believe!

The mind does indeed have power – here’s the proof!

The Secret Of The Shaolin Monks

This exercise is has been known for thousands of years and is just as valid today as ever.
1) Stand with your feet shoulder width apart.

2) Raise an arm to the side of your body (your left or right, whichever is more comfortable for you) so it is at the height of your shoulder with the palm facing upwards and the fingers outstretched. Slightly bend your arm at the elbow.

3) Breathe deeply through your nose taking about 6 seconds to complete the inhalation.

4) Imagine a point about two and a half inches below your navel (called seika no iten in Japanese). This is the center of gravity of your body.

5) As you take in subsequent breaths imagine this point getting brighter and brighter until it has the power of the sun.

6) Now, imagine power emanating from this ‘sun’. See it travelling through your body and up into your outstretched arm.

7) See this energy pouring along your arm and bursting out of your finger tips ‘to the ends of the universe’.

8) Now get somebody (or several people to try and bend your arm naturally – not against the joint, this isn’t a judo lock!)

9) They should apply pressure slowly at first and then gradually increase the intensity of the force applied. Do not use your muscle power or you will fail miserably. Only use your imagination – the power of your mind – nothing else.

You will find, to your utter amazement, and theirs, that they are completely unable to bend your arm even if they are physically much stronger than you!

Why should this be so?

You tell me! This is not a cheap magician’s trick – this is 100% proof of the power of the mind.

There are various alternatives to this fascinating exercise including the ability to change your body weight at will. This is a truly awesome experience and a real eye-opener as to how the mind can indeed do wonders and really does have power – the power to create anything we could possibly imagine!

Ian S.N. There are some interesting resources posted there on this subject, although I would suggest getting hold of a medical dictionary, (if there is such a thing) for greater reading pleasure.

I mean, when was the last time you bumped into Atherosclerosis?

I Want...I Want...I Want

How many times have you walked through a bookstore, picked up a book on self-improvement and find the author telling you that in order for you to better yourself, you've got to think positive? Pretty simple advice to dish out and alot of money to rake in from an author's point of view (Hint: the self-help market is a multi-million dollar industry), but what does positive thinking actually entail?

Well according to many of these self-help books, it means telling yourself that you are rich when you know you are currently $75,000 in debt. That you are thin when you know in actuality that the elevator to your office refuses to close its doors because its overloaded when in fact, you are the only one riding it. The baloney that many of these books spew teaches you to believe that "I am" thin when you are not, is going to set you on a path for a positive change. Let me tell you right now that the two words "I am" are so destructive that its not even funny. The words "I am" do nothing but mask the reality of your situation and worst of all, does nothing for your path for change; whatever it is that you want to change.

Rather, let me introduce you to the two words that will actually set you in motion for change while unmasking the truth of your situation: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome; "I Want".

Let's note the vast difference in attitude here. "I am" a track star will do nothing for you if you are lying on your couch eating chips all day hoping that the secrets to running a 9.2 second 100m dash is in the preservatives from your chips. "I want" to be a track star however fuels a drive within you to set a goal and achieve that target while inevitably realizing that you are not yet a track star.

There is no 'New Age' language or secret codes to getting to where you want to be. Like the title of my blog says, the power to make any kind of difference starts with you and 2 simple words like "I want" will set you in motion towards getting there.

As for me, "I want" a garage to hold my Maserati that I also want. Hey...we all have to start somewhere and I have the posters of the Maserati and sketches of my garage to prove it.

What Improves With Age The More You Use It?

If you thought "my eyesight" then I suggest you can skip this blog post and get back to watching your tube. But if your said "my brain",...ahh...then you are absolutely correct.

It is quite reassuring to discover that as we age and begin shriveling like a grape out in the sun, there is one thing that will actually improve as we age. Contrary to popular belief, our mental and physical abilities do not necessarily decline with age. Meaning, our brain leaves us enough room to soak up as much information as we possibly desire for the entire lifespan of our lives and more. This is so because our neurons are continuously making new and complex connections, so even if you chose to destroy a couple of hundred of brain cells everyday just for the fun of it (WARNING: watching MTV's "I Bet You Will" will accelerate that process"), it would still be less than 1 percent of your total.

Talk about under-utilizing your God given gifts. So let's get out there and pump ourselves with some worthwhile information knowing with confidence that that's one 'hard disk' that needs no upgrading.

Theatre of Imagination

In my last post, I mentioned something about creating 'mini-movies' in your mind. Well, I would just like to elaborate a little bit more on that. You see, each of us has the ability to imagine, but more importantly, VISUALIZE. Visualization is free to all of us but yet, very costly if not utilized simply because with visualization, we can achieve the things we desire much faster than without it. But even better than that, you can achieve the things that you might not have thought possible.

Dr. Maxwell Maltz taught and wrote about this technique, which is known as Psycho-Cybernetics. The concept is basically this: you can get to where you want to be by strengthening your self-image via your own visualization.

Say for example, you desire great wealth. But you think it’s an impossible dream because you are currently $75,000 in debt. Using the technique Dr. Maltz teaches, you set aside some time, maybe just before sleeping, and visualize with your mind, that you are already filthy rich, and creatively imagine yourself doing the things you would be doing as a filthy rich person. The best part about this is, there is nothing to stop you from imagining anything you don’t want to imagine or want to. By doing this, you are subconsciously acting it out and in turn steers you towards making your ‘mini-movie’ a reality.

I tell you, this stuff is intriguing and many professional athletes I have read about seem to take this pretty seriously. And the reason they do is because it simply works.

Thinking of Dieting?

Then just do it! Nah, not dieting but thinking it! This is not some mumbo-jumbo mind control tactic but a technique first espoused by B.F. Skinner called 'Behaviour Control'. Through 'behaviour control', you can actually determine your own eating habits with thoughts of punishing or rewarding yourself, to put you in control of what you desire for your body.

Part of this process involves making full use of your imagination and creating ‘mini-movies’ in your mind to steer you towards the choices that you desire for yourself.

An example here could be; you reaching out to take a bite off that brownie cake that you just bought from the bakery. But, putting ‘behaviour control’ into action, you would now imagine flying cockroaches leaping out of that cake having already laid their eggs in it. That should put you off eating the cake and if it doesn’t, I would seriously think about you getting help. But ok, if that really does not deter you, then try imagining something that does. At the point of you flinging that cake out the window in disgust, you should reward yourself with positive and wonderful thoughts; like getting into that gown or suit you tried your whole life getting into or anything that motivates you to keep at your plan of dieting. Just don't imagine yourself going back to the bakery and buying another brownie.

There’s more to this, which can provide you with a much clearer picture of what you should do and how ‘behaviour control’ works to your benefit, but this is as much as I can tell you about this topic. If you are really keen in this area, do yourself a favour and find out if Amazon has books on it or maybe even your local library. Remember, if this works for you, you can apply this technique in other areas of your life as well.

Just Think It!

Emotional Stress Can Make You Ill

If you didn't know this already, then its time you find out. It's about your mind and that it can make your body ill. In the medical field, this is known as psychogenic disorder; where the origin of the problem is psychological rather than physiological.

Not to scare you or anything, but if you have been waking up earlier than usual and feeling unusually tired, you might want to check in with your doctor, as it could be a symptom for psychogenic disorder. An illness as simple as the common cold can be triggered by emotional stress. So it might be a good idea to get in touch with your feelings ever more often (men included) and watch out for sudden changes in your life, positive or otherwise, as they often precede illness.

Well there, now you know.

Feeling Depressed? Take A Hike.

Or a walk. Yup, according to ongoing studies and research, taking a walk, going for a run or performing some form of exercise at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes a day, can work off more than a sweat. Physical exercise keeps the mind sharp and makes depression think twice about paying you a visit, or if you are already mildly depressed, you’re bound to feel a lot better.

So go work out a sweat, even if it means being chased by your neighbour's dog, let it be.
